Roiling and Rolling on the Los Pinos

Gents,

The Los Pinos at Ortiz is running today at 827 cfs. This is down from an outrageous 1600 cfs ten days ago.....I bet that cleared the dead wood out of the holes! No wonder Eubaldo and Victor put in those oversize, built like a locomotive, bridges on their properties....just to handle this annual spike in May.

Can't say what June will look like, but I expect that last week stands a good chance of being low enough and clear enough to be good fishing. We are looking for anything below 100 CFS, ideally below 50.

By way of incentive for this year's trip, we will be christening the all new, custom built, Los Pinos River Equipment Permanent Mobile Storage and Utility Trailer! Messick has been hard at work, between beers, locating, architecting, and fabricating, the new conveyance. He says it will be ready to roll in June, so you won't want to miss the debut.

Most of the crew will be on the river sometime between June 21 and 28. See you there!

Beautiful in NM!

It's going to be gorgeous - the water might be a little high, but I think it will be a great year on the river...

Since I am so close and could bring bulk items (I emphasize "could" because I retain the right to defer after seeing the amount and size of requests!), please let me know if it would be beneficial to purchase stuff at Costco (wharehouse/bulk store) for the group.

Welton - Goodbye Rocky Mtn News & plans

I'll look into flights.
Sorry to see the Rocky Mountain News fold. I worked with those reporters on the Harry Combs story, and they were very good. Had done their homework on him, and asked questions that drilled down deep.
Some light reading on North Carolina 1960's architecture - http://www.ourstate.com/magazine/toc/march09.asp

MQ Plans - Wed to Sun (6/24-6/28/09)

I am planning to drive down the evening of the 24th Wed or the morning of the 25th Thu, and head home the 28th Sun.

Kris Pearson is on the same schedule more or less, may or may not bring Andrew, and may fly into Alamosa or maybe Colorado Springs.

Steve Loos is out this year, at a Rotary conference in England.

Theron has two newly minted titanium knees, that I think he needs to exercise in the Los Pinos - what do you guys think?

Don't know the status of any others.....maybe everyone can comment?

See you there.

ps - pictures are from the Eagle River west of Vail on Wednesday this week. 5 or 6 fish. Nothing too big, but a nice fishing day in February in the Rocky Mountains

Any plans, yet?

The winter has been dry so far! There should be low water levels this year. The 'dark of the moon' in June this year is going to be the week of the 22nd - I expect that means the LPRFT big weekend this year will be the 26th and 27th. Let's start planning the 'invitation' list and the menu! Joseph is coming and he is bringing the marshmallows!!
